International students can work in New Zealand after completing their studies thanks to the Post-Study Work Visa program. With the help of this visa, you can get practical work experience linked to your field of study. It helps in enhancing your abilities and open doors to more employment opportunities. Your work visa can later lead to residency in New Zealand, once you fulfil the residence visa requirements.
The processing time for a Post-Study Work Visa in New Zealand can vary based on factors such as the type of application, the completeness of your documentation, and the volume of applications being processed at the time.
If you possess a qualification at level 7 or above, you have the flexibility to work for any employer. However, if your qualification is at a non-degree level 7 or below, you are eligible to work only in a role that aligns with your qualification. It’s important to ensure that your qualification is in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Post Study Work Visa list.
You can submit an application for this visa only once.…
For the majority of individuals, the visa duration will align with their full-time study period in New Zealand. Those who completed master’s and doctoral degrees in New Zealand and studied for at least 30 weeks, will remain eligible to work and stay in the country for 3 years.
For qualifications achieved at level 8 or lower, your work visa will mirror the duration of your study. This duration will be calculated based on the information provided in your offer of place. For instance, if your offer of place indicates a study period of 32 weeks, your visa will correspondingly be granted for 32 weeks.
It’s important to note that if you encounter course failures or take longer than the stipulated time to complete your study as indicated in your offer of place, the duration of your post study work visa will not be extended.
If there are any discrepancies found between the actual duration of your study and the offer of place the immigration authorities will seek additional information from your educational institution.
Also, remember that if you have submitted your student visa application before or on 11th May 2021, you are eligible to apply for a work visa or accredited employer NZ visa. But keep in mind that you are limited to applying for this visa only once.

• The qualification must have been acquired through study in New Zealand.
• The qualification should be at least Level 4 or higher on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).
• Your qualification at Level 7 or higher will be considered acceptable if the duration of your course was 30 weeks or longer.
