New Zealand has introduced a temporary reduction in Visitor Visa fees for eligible Pacific nationals to support travel, strengthen regional connections, and reinforce New Zealand’s relationship with Pacific nations.
The reduced fees took effect on 1 June 2026 and will apply for a 12-month trial period.
Eligible Pacific nationals applying for a Visitor Visa from outside New Zealand will now pay:
This is a reduction from the previous fee of NZD $216.
For comparison, visitors from most other countries pay a total of NZD $441, including the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL), which Pacific visitors are generally exempt from paying.

In addition, citizens of the Cook Islands, Niue, and Tokelau are New Zealand citizens and do not require visas to enter New Zealand. Australian citizens and permanent residents also continue to travel visa-free under the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement.
The temporary fee reduction is part of New Zealand’s broader commitment to strengthening ties with Pacific nations and improving travel accessibility for Pacific communities.
The Government will use the 12-month trial period to assess the impact on travel demand, visitor numbers, operational costs, and immigration services before making any long-term decisions.
