Employer accreditation is a crucial step for New Zealand businesses who wish to hire overseas workers. Before you seek help from skilled migrants, you must first become an accredited employer so that you are authorised to extend job offers to foreign workers with the Accredited Employer Work Visa.
Accreditation facilitates the hiring process for overseas workers and positions your business as a reputable employer that complies with all of NZ’s immigration and employment standards.
The accreditation process is extremely important if you wish to hire migrant workers. However, it can be confusing and intricate. This is why we at Auckland South Immigration Consultants have committed ourselves to helping people like you navigate New Zealand’s visa regulations.
Accreditation is important because it allows you to expand your workforce with qualified, skilled overseas workers through the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) in New Zealand. The AEWV is NZ’s primary temporary work visa and is designed to ensure that resident New Zealanders are prioritised for jobs. If no locals can fill a job role, then accredited employers can seek help from migrant workers who can effectively manage the responsibilities of the position in question. Suitable migrant workers with skills on NZ’s Green List can apply for the role so that employers can continue fulfilling their services with a suitable employee team. This system is designed to allow accredited employers to supplement their own New Zealand workforce, even if resident workers are not available.
Accreditation is necessary to ensure that only qualified employers are extending job offers to potential migrant workers, reducing the chances of migrant worker exploitation and ensuring they have good, stable opportunities for work in NZ. Once accredited, NZ businesses can offer migrant workers a minimum of 30 hours of work per week.
Are you interested in hiring skilled migrant workers? Becoming an accredited employer involves several key steps. Employers can get accreditation through the following process:
The cost of becoming an accredited NZ employer will depend on the type of accreditation you need.
Additionally, it costs NZD $610 for a job check. A job check will ensure that the position you are offering has been advertised locally and that no suitable New Zealanders are available for the work, opening the position up for skilled migrants. If your job check is declined, then you can request reconsideration for a fee of NZD $240.
